For Tri-College PhD Program
1. MA or MS degree from a recognized institution of learning 2. Grade weighted average of 1.75 or better 3. Duly accomplished application for admission addressed to the Chair, Philippine Studies Council, UP Diliman 4. Two copies of transcript of records (TOR) of undergraduate and graduate studies 5. Three letters of recommendation from former professors or experts from the applicant's discipline(s)/areas(s) of study 6. A two-page description of the proposed dissertation with a multi-disciplinal orientation to be presented orally before the Admissions Committee 7. Proficiency in Filipino (alternatively, a student may be accepted conditionally, subject to passing a proficiency examination in Filipino to be administered by the Departamento ng Filipino at Panitikan ng Pilipinas within the first year of study). 8. Application fee of P100 for Filipino Students and US$25 for foreign applicants 9. Two passport-sized photos For Foreign Students In addition to the above requirements, foreign applicants are advised to inquire at the Philippine embassy or mission in their country of residence and with the University of the Philippines' International Students Program (up_isp@yahoo.com) for information on visa, study permit and other requirements. The following are other standard requirements: 1. For foreign applicants from non-English speaking countries, original or certified true copy of standard language tests showing a minimum score (for TOEFL - 500 or equivalent if using new computer-based test; for IELTS-7.5). Alternatively, the university may require the candidate to take associated tests of written (TWE) and spoken (TSE) English. The appropriate scores in these two tests are: TWE-4.5; TSE-55. 2. U.P. Admission Letter 3. Valid passport (showing name, number, picture, date and place of birth, date and place of issue of visa and authorized stay) 4. Affidavit of support or bank statement 5. Alien Certificate of Residence (ACR) for 9-F, 9-G, and 47(a)2 visa holders 6. Certificate of Residence for Temporary Students (CRTS) for 9-F visa holders 7. Certificate of Residence for Pre-arranged Employment 8. Immigrant Certficate of Residency (ICR) or Native-born Certificate of Residency (NBCR) for 13, 13-A, 13-E and 13-G visa holders. Deadlines Please be informed that the above requirements should be received by the Office of the College Secretary on or before March 31 for those applying for admission beginning First Semester (June-October), and on or before August 31 (M.A. programs) and September 15 (Ph.D program) for those applying for admission starting Second Semester (November-March). Schedule of semestral fees Tuition fees at Php500/unit; miscellaneous fees Php 1015; student fund Php51.50; entrance fee Php30 and Php100 for new student. Foreign students are required to pay an additional Education Development Fund (EDF) of US$ 500 per semester (this amount may vary according to their status of residence in the country). |
